Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today asked all concerned to work for increasing the education rate as she unveiled the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations results.

PM stresses increasing the education rate: “We will have to increase the education rate further from the existing 75.2 per cent,” she said.

She released the HSC and equivalent examinations results of 11 education boards by pressing a button at her office here this morning.

The prime minister said her government had increased the education rate to 65.5 per cent after assuming power in 1996, but the rate decreased to 44 per cent during the last BNP government.

“But, we have raised the education rate to 75.2 per cent from 44 per cent of the (last) BNP government tenure,” she said.

The premier extended her wholehearted gratitude to the education ministry and others concerned for holding the examinations and publishing the results in a timely.

She also asked the students to be more attentive to study and said all concerned should pay attention to this end.

“Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman wanted to build Sonar Bangladesh with worthy citizens and these (worthy people) are today’s children,” she said.

The prime minister asked the students to take vocational and information technology training in their leisure time after their board examination to build their efficiency which will enhance the opportunity of getting jobs at home and abroad.

“It is not enough to get only BA and MA degrees, but at the same time it is necessary to obtain knowledge of information technology as the era is meant for digital devices,” she said.

She called upon the students to take vocational and IT pieces of training as her government is setting up incubation centres and high-tech parks alongside IT and vocational training centres across the country.

“Don’t waste your time rather use those to make yourselves worthy after taking the training,” she said.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni and Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury spoke at the function.

Earlier, the education minister handed over the summary of the combined results to the prime minister.

Later, the chairmen of 11 education boards – nine general boards, one madrasah education board and one technical education board – handed over their respective boards’ results to the premier

Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Suleman Khan conducted the result handover event.

The HSC and equivalent examinations were held between November 6 and December 22 in 2022.

A total of 1,203,407 students appeared in the examinations.

Sheikh Hasina asked all concerned to pay more attention to the research.

“Our agriculture-related research work is going on very well. I am telling you to give more attention to other subjects as well,” she said.

The prime minister said it would not be possible to know new things without research.

Mentioning that no country can develop without having a literate nation, she said, “We want to build poverty-free Bangladesh, for which, we urgently need educated people.”

She said her government has diversified education to this end.

“We are working with a special focus on education to build our children as worthy of coping with the ever-changing world,” she added.

The premier said the government has set up subject-wise universities which are very much needed in view of the world context.

She congratulated those who have passed the examinations and their guardians and asked the students who failed to pass the examinations not to be disappointed.

The premier also asked the male students to be more attentive in study to match up with the girls as the passing rate of girls is higher.

“I am hoping that the guardians and students will be more attentive,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina said the country’s children are very much brilliant, adding that if they get the chance, they could make anything possible.

She said that the concerned authorities have shown great skill by continuing academic activities during the Covid-19 period.
